Building a SharePoint page used to mean knowing your way around the web part toolbox. Hero section here, text block there, people web part if you could figure out how to configure it. Perfectly achievable but time-consuming, and not exactly the kind of work that makes anyone’s day.
That’s now changed.
Microsoft has shipped one of the most useful AI capabilities in SharePoint, and most people with a Copilot license haven’t tried it yet. The SharePoint community has taken to calling it “Vibe Page Editing” (a nod to the vibe coding movement) and the name fits. You describe what you want. The AI builds it. You refine it in conversation until it’s right.
Microsoft officially calls it “Plan and Create Pages with AI,” and it sits inside the same AI in SharePoint umbrella as the Knowledge Agent we covered in our last post. The entry point is the same floating action button or simply click Edit on any modern page and the AI authoring panel opens automatically alongside your canvas.
Vibe page editing is not just for new pages
That’s the part that tends to surprise people. Earlier versions of Copilot in SharePoint could help you draft a new page from scratch. What’s different now is that Vibe Page Editing works on pages that already exist.
Open a page that needs refreshing such as an outdated department hub, a project site that’s grown cluttered, a resource page that never quite landed, and start a conversation with the AI panel. Tell it what you need. It asks clarifying questions, proposes a structure, and starts building on the canvas in front of you. Don’t like the layout? Say so. Want a different tone? Ask for it. The whole thing is multi-turn, which means you stay in dialogue until the page reflects what you actually had in mind.
Web parts, configured for you
This is where it gets genuinely impressive. Previously, AI page creation was largely limited to text and images, useful, but not a complete page. Now Microsoft is connecting the AI authoring experience to the wider web part library.
Ask it to add your project team to the page, include their roles, and pull from your Microsoft 365 directory. It’ll use the People web part and configure it properly without you touching a single setting. Ask for an FAQ section, a quick links block, or a chart grounded in a SharePoint list. The agent handles the configuration. You focus on the outcome.
"You can go deep in page building without ever really knowing how to configure the web parts because it configures them for you. For the people who've always wanted better SharePoint pages but never had time to learn every setting, this is the answer."

Grounded in your content
One of the most practical aspects of Vibe Page Editing is the ability to ground the output in your own files. Attach a Word document, a PowerPoint deck, a PDF, or even a recorded meeting transcript, and the AI draws on those sources when building the page.
Ask it to summarize the last two project meeting transcripts into a status update page. Ask it to turn your HR policy document into a clean, navigable resource hub. The page it produces is built from your content, not generic filler.
You can attach up to five files per session, with the first acting as the primary source and the rest providing supporting context.
Refining as you go
Once the AI has built a first draft, the conversation continues. Tell it to make the intro more concise, shift to a two-column layout, or rewrite a section in a more professional tone.
Microsoft’s given you a full range of style options: concise, longer, professional, casual, imaginative and you can jump between AI-assisted editing and manual web part editing in the same session at any time. Nothing is locked in until you publish.
The business case
Every organization has SharePoint pages that were built once and never properly maintained. Pages that don’t reflect the current team. Resource hubs that became link graveyards. Project sites that got abandoned halfway through a migration.
The time it used to take to rebuild those pages properly was the reason they stayed broken. Vibe Page Editing removes that barrier. A content owner who couldn’t tell a Hero web part from a Quick Links block can now describe what they need and have a polished, properly structured page in minutes. That’s a meaningful shift, not just for productivity, but for the quality and usefulness of your intranet as a whole.
And like everything else in the AI in SharePoint suite, it’s included in your Microsoft 365 Copilot license.
How to get started
You’ll need an active Microsoft 365 Copilot license. During the public preview phase, accessing AI in SharePoint required a manual PowerShell opt-in, but that’s no longer the case.
From Targeted Release, which began rolling out on 5 May 2026, the new SharePoint experience applies automatically to all tenants and users, with no opt-out available at either level. General Availability follows from mid-June 2026.
For the full experience, Anthropic should be enabled as an AI sub-processor in your Microsoft 365 admin center, the advanced reasoning capabilities behind Vibe Page Editing run on Anthropic’s Claude model.
One important note for organizations with operations in the EU or UK: Anthropic is disabled by default for those tenants and needs to be explicitly opted in. Without it, the full experience won’t be available. As an IT admin you can enable it under AI providers in your Copilot settings. Full setup instructions are on Microsoft Learn. Or reach out to Cloudwell and we can show you how.
A note on naming: Microsoft officially calls this capability “Plan and Create Pages with AI” within AI in SharePoint. “Vibe Page Editing” is the term widely used across the SharePoint community and the one that best captures what it actually feels like to use.
